Guitarist Charlie Smith is a highly talented Indianapolis performer who
is quickly gaining a reputation for captivating the interest of
audiences with his expressive music styling and dynamic stage presence.
Smith's guitar playing displays a style that ranges from sensuously warm
to highly energetic. This elegant and sophisticated performer projects a
confidence and charm that delights fellow musicians and audiences alike.
Drawing from his wealth of musical knowledge and a wide variety of
influences, Smith has stepped into the Indianapolis Jazz Community
spotlight as a leader of his own group, the "Charlie Smith Project".
The group delivers a mix of traditional jazz, smooth jazz, pop classics,
and orginal compositions from Smith's award winning Smooth Jazz CD,
"Absolutely," selected as "Indianapolis" Best Smooth Jazz CD" of 1999 by
NUVO Magazine.
As a backing musician he has been in great demand for years by Indiana's
most noted entertainers for his versatile repertoire including Swing,
Latin, R&B, Jazz, and Pop. Smith has appeared with singer Carl Storie
and on CDs and in concert with, pianist Steve Allee. In 1997 Smith
performed and the world renowned Montreux Jazz Festical in Montreux,
Switzerland with the "Steve Allee Contemporary Jazz Band."
The "Charlie Smith Project" performed on the main stage at :Indy Jazz
Fest" Other appearances include "Animals and All That Jazz" at the
Indianapolis Zoo, "First Friday" for the Indianapolis Museum of Art, and
the Indiana Roof Ballroom. In addition to his own group Smith is also a
member of the "Bob & Tom" band and has recorded on several of their
benefit CDs.
